Club Royal

clubs

Richmond had already completed works to The Royal Bar in 2006/2007. and were commissioned to design and fit-out “Mel’s Bar” on the first floor. Subsequent to this in August 2008, they were asked to devise a concept for the existing first floor, function room/disco area. The concept evolved from the brief to create a unique entertainment space on the Shankill Road. The Bar and club are owned by Mr James Hanna and his family.

There was not any specific stipulations other than to meet anticipated target audience along with capacity expectations and the provision of a smoking area directly accessible from the new club. Beyond that, the client left everything to Richmond to provide a viable scheme within budget and time.

There are a number of entertainment venues in the area, but all of them are more or less bars with function spaces. The club concept evolved from a need to provide a fashionable club in the heart of the Shankill Road.

It took approximately three weeks to complete and “Club Royal” opened in November to much acclaim as the first of its genre in West Belfast.

The nightclub extends to approximately 150m (1610sq ft) and from a design perspective the overall scheme is most impressive, given what was there before. The space has been designed with comfort, vitality and flow at the heart of the concept. Individual features punctuate the space and the use of natural colour tones allows the lighting scheme to maximise effect! The bar is simplistic yet contemporary in its use of timber and LED lighting. The seating geometric, uniform and at the same time vivacious and textured. Feature wall coverings, are in black and white velvet and framed in walnut “retro style”. The wall covering pattern is organic and free flowing in contrast to the rigid linear feel of the overall scheme.

The contract value was in the region of £150k. and Richmond managed every aspect of the project in-house, on time and to budget.

The existing air conditioning and ventilation systems had to be retained within the new scheme. This meant heat equipment had to be raised or lowered to suit the new ceiling heights. Site problems are overcome more so at pre-site stage with all contractors communicating anticipated problems through the project managers, in this case Richmond.

Richmond are delighted to have been asked back again by the Hanna family, and as a matter of course, is a testament to Richmond’s commitment to quality craftsmanship, effective design and a realisation that every project is different, each client an individual and that their expectations can be met in flair, workmanship and market awareness.
